Strength with purpose
Not power over others. Strength for others.
Strength is often portrayed as toughness, dominance or the ability to win a fight. The Strength Project stands for something better.
True strength is courage guided by integrity. It is having the confidence to be kind, the discipline to control your own behaviour and the conviction to stand beside someone who should not have to stand alone.
The Strength Project is a Celtic Stag initiative encouraging men and boys to recognise that strength is not power over others. It is the responsible use of whatever power, influence or ability we have to create safety, challenge harm and protect human dignity.
Not power over others. Strength for others.
Protection should never be confused with possession or control. A protector does not restrict another person’s freedom and call it care. They listen. They respect boundaries. They step forward when their voice can make a difference and step back when someone else needs to be heard.
The Strength Project does not begin with the assumption that men are inherently harmful. Many men already live these values every day. But good intentions alone do not change a culture. Good men also have influence, particularly with other men, and that influence matters.
Sometimes courage is confronting harmful behaviour. Sometimes it is refusing to laugh at the joke, checking whether someone is safe, calling for help, challenging a mate or admitting that you need support yourself.
Strength does not always roar. Very often, it is the quiet decision not to look away.
What strength looks like
Strength is courage. Speaking when staying silent would be easier.
Strength is integrity. Doing what is right even when nobody is watching.
Strength is compassion. Treating empathy and kindness as capabilities, not weaknesses.
Strength is accountability. Owning your actions, repairing harm and choosing to do better.
Strength is protection. Helping create safety without taking away another person’s agency.
Strength is restraint. Understanding that having power does not give you the right to misuse it.
Why Celtic Stag is taking a stand
Celtic Stag was created for the warriors, seekers, peacekeepers and peacemakers. Those words are more than branding. They represent the kind of strength I want my work to honour.
The old stories woven through Norse, Celtic and Scottish heritage are filled with symbols of courage, loyalty, endurance, protection and responsibility to one’s community. The Strength Project carries those values into modern life, without glorifying violence, romanticising the past or pretending that strength belongs to one gender.
Jewellery cannot make someone brave or honourable. It can, however, carry a promise. It can remind the wearer of the person they choose to be and the values they intend to live by.
The Oath
At the heart of The Strength Project is The Oath, a simple unisex stainless-steel bracelet created to be worn every day.
A small stainless-steel disc carries a bind rune combining Tiwaz, Algiz and Mannaz, runes associated with courage and honour, protection, humanity and shared responsibility.
The completed symbol resembles both an arrow and a ladder. The arrow represents intention, direction and the courage to move forward. The ladder represents support, progress and helping others rise.
The Oath is not a claim of perfection. It is a personal reminder to use your strength with purpose, respect the dignity of others and keep choosing the person you intend to become.
Selected pieces from Celtic Stag’s existing collections will also represent individual Strength Project values, including courage, protection, compassion, integrity, resilience and strength reforged.
Strength that supports community
The Strength Project is intended to create practical good as well as conversation.
Ten per cent of the sale price of every designated Strength Project piece will be donated to a local Women’s Shed.
Women’s Shed provides a safe, welcoming and inclusive place where local women can connect, learn, create and support one another. Its work helps reduce social isolation while building confidence, practical skills, wellbeing and community participation.
Supporting that work reflects one of the project’s central beliefs: strength should not be used to diminish others. It should help people feel safer, more capable and less alone.

I will not confuse control with protection or cruelty with strength.
I will treat courage, compassion and accountability as signs of character.
I will respect the dignity, freedom and boundaries of others.
I will challenge harmful behaviour when it is safe and useful to do so.
I will seek help when a situation requires more than I can safely give.
I will use my strength, voice and influence with purpose.

The Strength Project is intended to grow through stories, conversations, meaningful symbols and practical action.
You can begin now. Live the values. Question the behaviour that causes harm. Support the people who speak up. Show the next generation that strength and compassion were never opposites.
You can also choose The Oath, or another designated Strength Project piece, as a personal symbol of that commitment. Ten per cent of its sale price will support the work of Maitland Women’s Shed.
