This piece features the Vegvísir: which literally translates to “way” (vegr) “shower” (vísir), the symbol is meant to prevent the person carrying it from losing their way, regardless of storm or if they know their destination. Colloquially known as “The Viking Compass” or “The Nordic Compass”. The first mention of it was in the Huld Manuscript (written in 1860 in Iceland by Geir Vigfusson) along with other magical staves. It is believed that the eight Icelandic rune staves comprising the Vegvisir could be representing the cardinal (North, South, West, East) and intercardinal directions (Northwest, Northeast, Southwest, Southeast)
The Vegvisir is renown as a symbol of guidance and protection.
It also features the 24 Elder Futhark rune symbols.
